WHAT IS IT?

US Board Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery indicates that a surgeon has fulfilled the training and examination requirements in the United States for the subspecialty of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, including an assessment of knowledge and skills in this field.

The journey so far

Dr. Honeybrook completed 8 years of specialist training in the United States in the specialities of General Surgery (1 year), Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (5 years) and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (2 years). This specialist training was in addition to 6 years of medical school training at University of New South Wales, Sydney, and 4 years of additional surgical internships and residency training rotations in Australia, totalling over 18 years of medical training.

Dr. Honeybrook completed the Board Certification process in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) in the United States after 5 years of specialist training. This training focused on the face, nose, eyelids, head and neck and involved both cancer and reconstructive surgeries as well as training in aesthetic surgeries such as rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and facelift.

Dr. Honeybrook completed the certification process to obtain United States Board Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery through the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). The ABFPRS certifies surgeons who have completed training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic Surgery in the United States and have met the board’s examination requirements. Dr. Honeybrook holds medical qualifications in both Australia and the United States, enabling him to maintain professional registration in both countries.

United States Board Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery indicates that a surgeon has completed training in one of two recognized surgical specialties—Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery or Plastic Surgery—with a focus on facial plastic surgery. The certification process includes a peer review of at least two years of clinical experience in facial plastic surgery and submission of operative reports documenting a minimum of 100 facial plastic surgery procedures.

In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and obtaining United States Board Certification in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Honeybrook completed additional training and examinations in Cosmetic Surgery, earning American Board Certification in Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS). Dr. Honeybrook was awarded the Robert F. Jackson Award for achieving the highest score on the 2020 American Board of Cosmetic Surgery Examination.
