The eyes are a prominent feature of the face and often contribute significantly to overall expression. For some individuals, changes in the upper eyelid region—such as skin redundancy or volume changes—may alter the way they feel their appearance is perceived.
At Dr. Honeybrook Facial Plastic Surgery in Queensland, upper blepharoplasty is performed for individuals seeking to address changes in the upper eyelid tissues. Dr Adam Honeybrook is a specialist Head and Neck Surgeon and also United States dual board-certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His approach is focused on personalised care, functional outcomes, and evidence-based techniques.
Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the removal or repositioning of skin and soft tissue in the upper eyelid region. This may include addressing excess skin folds and prominent fat pockets that can contribute to reduced upper eyelid definition or, in some cases, affect the upper visual field.
In patients with more significant tissue changes, upper eyelid surgery may also support functional improvement by reducing obstruction in the peripheral or upward line of sight. A full assessment will determine whether the procedure may be suitable for aesthetic or functional indications.
Yes, depending on your goals and clinical needs, upper blepharoplasty may be performed alongside other procedures. For example, a brow lift may be recommended to address changes in brow position that influence upper eyelid appearance. In some cases, a lower blepharoplasty or facial volume restoration may also be discussed as part of a broader treatment plan.
Dr Honeybrook tailors all procedures to the individual. When appropriate, small incisions are placed in the natural folds of the upper eyelids, and sometimes extended outward where additional correction is needed. Excess fat in the upper inner eyelid region may be carefully adjusted, and in select cases, a carbon dioxide (CO₂) laser may be used to support surface skin refinement in the periocular area.
Upper blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anaesthesia in a clinic setting. Patients are provided with detailed pre- and post-operative care instructions to support their recovery. Mild bruising or swelling is common in the days following surgery, with gradual improvement over one to two weeks.
Makeup may be used to conceal bruising once approved by the clinical team. Most patients return to normal activities within a week, although individual healing timelines vary. Results are best assessed once initial swelling subsides, and follow-up appointments help ensure that healing progresses as expected.
We welcome you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Honeybrook to determine whether upper eyelid surgery is right for you.
