Your nose is a hard-to-miss feature of your face, which is fantastic if you like its profile, size, shape, and other aspects. However, if you dislike the appearance of your nose, it is possible to change the shape of the nose with rhinoplasty surgery. To achieve the elusive balance and exude confidence, the rhinoplasty procedure (or “nose job”) may be an option for you.
At the offices of Dr Honeybrook Facial Plastic Surgery in Brisbane and Sydney, you benefit from the unique expertise and skill of Australia’s only US triple-boarded head and neck and cosmetic surgeon who practices facial plastic surgery, Dr. Adam Honeybrook. It is important for those considering any surgery to know their responsibilities throughout the treatment process. We partner with patients to speed up predictable healing and minimize the risks of complications during and after surgery.
Again, we will review everything to expect with you well before your procedure. And while every patient’s experience differs, there are some general expectations following your procedure. Notably, it is not unusual to notice bruising and swelling for the first two to three weeks. Bruises and swollen areas tend to be around the eyes and cheeks. These effects should go down as time passes. To help manage any discomfort as you heal, Dr. Honeybrook may suggest medications to reduce inflammation and ease the pain. A cold compress is also a good idea. Take it easy. Your body needs time to heal. Rushing back into strenuous activity will only increase swelling and delay healing.
Early on, external and internal nasal splints may be placed. The former splint is applied on the outside of the nose to support its shape as you heal. The latter splint is used inside the nose to support the nasal passages during recovery. They are typically left in place for around a week. Once they are removed, you may require a small nasal retainer or stent for several weeks when sleeping to support the nostrils as recovery progresses.
As swelling subsides, you will see your new and improved nose emerge. Exercise patience. Be aware that swelling can take up to 12 months to resolve fully. After around three months, though, that swelling is generally not noticeable to the public.
Aside from the unique qualifications mentioned above, Dr. Honeybrook is on the cutting edge of innovation to reduce post-surgical swelling and expedite recovery and visible results. For instance, Dr Honeybrook uses platelet-rich fibrin as an innovative addition to the recovery process and his compounded creams to hasten recovery. Regardless of your unique healing “schedule” and experience, know that your results will be well worth the wait by partnering with our teams!
