Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as nose surgery, is a procedure that alters the shape or structure of the nose. Patients considering this surgery should be informed about the process, recovery, and expected outcomes.
Below is a general overview of the six stages typically involved in rhinoplasty for male patients:
The first step involves a consultation with a qualified medical practitioner. During this appointment, your medical history is reviewed, and an assessment of your nasal structure is performed. Discussion includes your concerns, goals, and realistic outcomes. Individual factors such as skin type and facial proportions are also considered.
If surgery is deemed suitable, you’ll receive personalised preparation instructions. This may include ceasing certain medications, maintaining good general health, and undergoing pre-surgical evaluations. Proper preparation helps minimise surgical risks and supports a smooth recovery.
Rhinoplasty is typically performed under general anaesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. The procedure involves surgical modification of the nasal structures and is tailored to the individual’s functional and aesthetic needs. Details about surgical methods, risks, and the estimated duration will be provided during the consent process.
You will be monitored in a recovery area after the procedure. Mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected in the early post-operative period. You will receive clear aftercare instructions, including how to manage symptoms and when to attend follow-up visits.
Over the following weeks, swelling will gradually reduce, and the nose will begin to settle into its new shape. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity, protect the nose from trauma, and attend scheduled reviews. Final results may take several months to become fully visible.
Most patients notice continued improvement over a period of 6 – 12 months. As with all surgical procedures, outcomes may vary between individuals based on factors such as healing response and anatomy. Your medical practitioner will monitor your recovery and address any concerns during follow-up appointments.
