Beyond superficial
Traditionally, the “neck lift” has been performed primarily through incisions in the front of the ears and the hairline area near the temples. With the deep neck lift procedure, these openings can be avoided. With selected patients, Dr. Honeybrook makes one carefully concealed incision in the crease beneath the chin. Since every patient is unique, an incision behind the ears may be necessary based on the severity of the sagging. These openings allow Dr. Honeybrook to access and tighten the deeper muscle layers, fibrous tissues, and structures of the neck. The band of tissue, or platysma muscle, is reshaped to improve the firmness and appearance of the deep foundational layers of the neck.
“Treatable” concerns
Dr. Honeybrook has expertly treated a range of patients across the age spectrum with neck-related laxity. He reminds readers that sagging in the lower portion of the face may not be fully resolved with the deep neck lift due to the placement of incisions. In this case, he recommends a Deep Plane Facelift procedure to correct jowls and a sagging, poorly-defined jawline. Like the deep neck lift, the deep plane facelift targets the underlying tissues to get real, sustained, and natural-looking results. More comprehensive rejuvenation may be supported with buccal fat pad reduction or a chin implant. Dr. Adam Honeybrook
Dr. Adam Honeybrook is a specialist Australian Head and Neck Surgeon who is double Board-Certified in the USA in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He specialises in advanced surgical facial rejuvenation techniques and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He completed basic surgical training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, and sat for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations. He trained at several renowned US hospitals, including Vanderbilt University Hospital and Duke University Hospital, and attained accreditation as a specialist surgeon.
Dr. Honeybrook completed his first Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at the Ivy League institution, the University of Pennsylvania under the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He received another fellowship in Louisiana and became an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology.
He returned to Australia in 2020 to work as a specialist consultant surgeon at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He has completed multiple specialist examinations in the USA and Australia, conducted numerous research studies, and he presents frequently at national and international conferences on his techniques. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
